I'd suggest half a teaspoon of water and let it sit with something covering the glass for a few minutes.Nothing wrong with that, I normally add a teaspoon of water to Ardbeg. You could also try letting it sit in the glass for ten minutes or so first to allow some of the alcohol fumes to settle down. I found peated whisky to be an acquired taste, Talisker was my gateway. Now it's rare that I reach for something non-peated.
Benriach do two peaty numbers; Curiositas and and Birniemoss. The latter comes in at 48% abv.Ardmore is worth a look, a peated Highland whisky without being sea weedy / medicinal as people can find some of the traditional Isla whisky to be. They do the Legacy (40% ABV) and the Tradition (46% ABV), both a good but if you can get the Tradition, which is a travel retail exclusive i.e. from any UK airport it's worth it.
Agreed. It's a peaty belter...but sweet too. I have the 18 yo but unopened as yet.For under £40 I think Laphroaig Quarter Cask is the best you can get.
Bruichladdich (pretty sure I haven't spelled that right) and Caol Ila are my favourites. Just take a leap.
I also prefer Lagavulin to Laphroig (that's pretty much my least favourite).

While not as perfect as Lagavulin, it's quite good for the money... I'm having a little sip right now...
