I like using different razors for the variety, yet with adjustables I tend to find my preferred setting and stick with it.As for the hardware side, I find adjustable razors an oddity and I couldn't get the gist of why?
suggestion for a razor that is a little more aggressive than the DE89? I don't want to go to extremes but thoughts on the next step on from the DE89 in terms of aggression would be welcomed.
Cheers
Steve
I haven't tried putting a shim in the DE89 yet, although I might do soon. In the meantime I have received the Qshave Futur clone. Used that on setting 3 a couple of times with great irritation free results. My facial hair is quite wiry and the additional aggression means i am taking far fewer passes. I may have answered my own question. I will keep rotating razors occasionally to see if my technique is improving and/or my skin is getting accustomed to DE shaving.Have you tried shimming your DE89?
Thanks @jtface. If I'm honest I haven't really looked at injectors yet. I will do some research. Are the blades easy to get?Have you tried an injector? I believe myself to have sensitive skin and a tough beard, and I get great results since using an injector (and my OCMM but that's a different matter)! You can pick up a Schick G1 (the one I use) for not a lot of cash on Fleabay!
I am wondering if adjusting your blade angle may help get a better shave out of the Tech. The optimum angle with that razor is quite narrow I hear and it performs better with the sharper blades; maybe try Gillette Silver Blue, Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge. The GSB should work well in the DE89 too.Yes. I would say with the Tech I probably take 50% more.
I have recently returned to using my Tech (an English Flat Bottom, Fat Handle), and have focused on the angle (keeping the cap near flat to the face) and have been rewarded with effortless, irritation-free, BBS in 2.5 passes (no excessive touching up needed). If you are getting irritation with a Tech I'd say you are compensating for perceived mildness with too much pressure. As above the sweet spot for the Tech is quite narrow but the inefficient but forgiving zone is quite large which is why they are considered mild. If you are in the inefficient zone it is easy to use too much pressure.
Edited for substitution of incorrect word without the excuse of auto-correct.
Astra SP are sharp (and cheap) enough for me in a Tech!I am wondering if adjusting your blade angle may help get a better shave out of the Tech.
