I love Mellons and DOC / SLOCS

Since joining shaving forums about 19-20 months ago I discovered Mellons and SLOCS - hooray !

Now I could happily use nothing else; they are efficient, smooth and comfy without being too feisty - I wish I knew about them decades ago !

The purple/pink lilac one is the friendly Dragon's (she's an ex fire-breather in a circus) - I got that one and the dark blue navy one imported from Australia to the UK.

Apparently they are fantastic for head shaves but, thankfully, I don't have that problem yet - I'm a sixty year old hippy herbalist !

Does anybody else love them and use them regularly ?

Haven't tried one yet but the Yaqi Mellon is most likely I think. Quite fancy a go with it. I've heard it's not over aggressive (y) :)

Jolly good show for considering a Mellon Mark12; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and definitely not disappointed with one - the black and silver Zamac ones are on aliexpress go for about £6-£8 quid but it's best to combine with other orders to consolidate postage (free over £8)

The best thing about double open combs is they hang on to lather and water really well and glide exceptionally smoothly and hardly clog up even going through thick beards plus rinsing is a breeze.

I think all things considered, they're a very good balanced design (patented in the 1940's if memory serves)

I think Yaqi do stainless Mellon heads for about £25-£30 not sure and a Titanium SLOC for about £66 and they're a tad more efficient than the basic cheapie ones but still not agressive; I'm happy with the Zamac and Brass ones and don't need the fancier ones personally.

You can also pick up an unbranded Zamac Mellon on ali for £3-£4 to try which I got two of and they work brilliantly for me and the missus.

I agree the Yaqi Melon is a great, inexpensive, smooth shaver. For me, it more than matches the 34C and R89 at roughly a third of the price. Aesthetically, too, it wins hands down.

That said, for most users, the 34C is a complete razor: beautifully balanced, well weighted, and comfortable in the hand. The Melon demands a little more attention, much like the R89, when it comes to choosing a handle that best suits the user.

With a little reading on this forum, new wet shavers coming from carts can transform their shaving experience. By choosing a top-performing razor, blade, brush, and soap, they can enjoy sumptuous, luxurious shaves for very little outlay.

I've been on the lookout for a copper / rose gold Mellon like yours but appears they're no longer in production. I do plan to pick up a zamac head instead
Lovely Sandpaper - you can't really go wrong with a Zamac Mellon - I've got ten lol !

Apparently the all brass Yaqi Mellon is about £100 so I made up mine by combining a £10 Yaqi Brass handle on ali and a Brass Mellon head for about fifteen quid.

The copper Yaqi Mellon was a right PITA to find; it wasn't on ali -can't remember where I found it now but it was about forty quid with twenty quid postage.

I know DScosmetics do rose gold Mellon heads but I can't find them on ali.
