Hot Water

There doesn't appear to be a place for preshave reviews so I'll put it here.

Hot water. Perhaps the most underrated preshave.
This fabulous stuff makes the hairs swell up without any chemicals. Swollen hair is easy to shave.
Its widely known that using an abundance of hot water helps you shave with much less irratation than if you didn't use it.
It is odourless (at least it is in Wales) and won't spoil the enjoyment of any fragrant products that you use post shave.
Hot water is extremely low cost. In fact it is so cheap I have it on tap.
Simply fill the sink with hot water. Soak a flannel. Hold the flannel to the face for about a minute. Thats it. Apply shaving lather and get on with it.
Hot water is also excellent for soaking your brush in and also great for warming your lather bowl.

Additional benefits of hot water is that its great for washing.
Extremely hot water (don't use as pre-shave) is excellent for making tea or coffee which should be drunk after shaving.

On the other hand, hot water can irritate and burn the skin on contact, can corrode many common materials, including iron, steel, unglazed ceramics and glass, can explode closed vessels, can lead to asphyxiation, will deteriorate materials like wood and leather, and is toxic in high doses....

Oh, and look up the hazardous properties of dihydrogen monoxide.
