Horse hair Brushes

In a moment of weakness I ordered this brush:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/catalog/the-pleasure-of-shaving/barber-brushes/professional-brush-no2-black-horse-hair-extra.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/catalog/ ... extra.html</a><!-- m -->

It arrived today and I must admit that I am looking forward to using it. The standard of work is acceptable.....not as well finished as the Semogues I have .....but it looks rather nice ....and I hope will prove to be a useful tool!

I suppose in this case.....I have shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.....but can anyone tell me what the pros and cons are with horse hair brushes?

Hello, I ordered the 13071 or something like that, I found it quite floppy but very soft, not the best for face lathering but very good in a bowl. That was after one shave so a little early to form an opinion, I'll probabily keep it but just for the novelty.

Hey Brian, I have that same brush but in brown not black.

These are my observations of it so far:

It's not as 'floppy' as most badgers, and not as stiff as most boars, but it's still somewhat scrubby, and has soft tips at the same time.

It has a good spine to it, and is no problem for either face or bowl lathering, so far, for me.

I find it dries about as fast as a badger and is so far, an all-round great brush.

Smaller than most 'pro/barber' models and perhaps if it had a slightly denser/bigger knot it might be more popular... but I'm really liking my few horsehair brushes at this point. They aren't all the same, that's for sure.
