Personally Speaking..I Always Use Paste..The Green Stuff is 1 Micron = 16 K..Whilst I Can Get a Good Shave Straight from 1 Micron 0.5 Chro/Ox Offers a Smoother Edge if Used Sparingly..I normally finish my honing on the light green lapping film from 3M, first as is then with paper cushion, would using a cromox pasted leather or linen flatbed strop be a natural step forward before final work on hanging strop or would it be a waste of time?
edit: with a natural step forward I am not asking for sharper but if possible maybe a tad smoother
Thank you for the answer! Will skip paper cushion and add lighter strokes. Everything is clear except how to best apply cromox, some really paint it thick but others seem to be happy just marking strop with green XXXXXXXXs.
Beautiful scales, very Swedish, well done.View attachment 31113
New scales added but will have another go at honing as edge is not 100 % consistent heel being the weak point.
A fantastic choice, have you picked which one? P.Got another vintage razor with cracked scales but this time I will be using proper material ie 150x40x4 mm blanks from here http://www.edelholzverkauf.de/Folder-Razor-Scales:::219.html
The birds eye maple caught my eye, very nice. P.View attachment 31160
