Hi fellas....

Not been on here in some time.

Lots been happening in my life since I last posted on here....
One thing that changed is I grew a beard... but I still use my razors for cleaning up the edges.
I've been using some straights recently.
Managed to hone and strop them to be "tree topping" with that lovely plinkity plink sound.

So like I say I've managed to hone all but one of my razors... but I have this one stubborn one it's a 'Taylors Eye Witness 1000' I've tried all that I know but can't get ot to get an edge it doesn't matter what stone I use... when I look at it with a 10x magnification lense it's still shining on the top half of blade edge from the middle to the tip as though the edge is as blunt as can be. We'll it is... no chance of getting it to shave hairs on my arm... to be honest I can't even get it to cut cardboard.

I'm nnotdoing anything different to what I did on the other blades.... it doesn't look warped or twisted or bent. I've checked the spine to blade ratio and it lays roughly at 3.8 -1. So I'm pretty sure that's not the issue.

I've got a 400/1000, 3000/8000 and a 15000.
I've spent the last 2 hours messing with it... (and its also my 4th attempt.) Just can't understand what's going on.

Any advice, tips, tricks.. suggestions... all welcome.
If you need specific info let me know.

Wish I could help but I’m only just about to start down the long, straight road myself. Try @JamieM and @UKRob on ATG. Failing that, join up to the Straight Razor Place forum. They’re chock full of expertise.

I thought srp was dead tbh, haven't seen much posted over there since march
Tbh a lot of the shaving forums seem to have died down a lot, the younger generation obviously either don't shave (beardies) or use electric

Beard growers, the man of 2025 just looks like they have stepped out of the world of the Stepford wives.

I love shaving with a straight razor, and it's my primary choice nowadays, but I am not good at all with honing. I am maintaining my current razors, either a refresh on the diamond balsa progression or the HBA/Lynn Idwal stone. I have successfully honed up only 3 ebay razors using a similar setup to yours, and that's all. I, too, have one razor that, despite everything I used, the edge is not cutting.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I'll admit I am a novice in honing.
Thanks for your confidence vote...:D:D

I'm no expert by any means, but do you have a microscope to check the bevel after you've set it with the 1k stone? That's my starting point with anything that isn't a refresh. I bought a cheap digital scope with a screen which is good enough to see what state the edge is in.
Failing that, go to one of the recognised honers already suggested.
