The Merkur 34C is a great razor but I am not sure what blades you are using; Tesco may have switched to Dorco ST301. Astra SP are worth trying and very cheap on e**y.My most prized shaving possession (given to me soon after I started wet shaving) is a boxed Gillette open comb razor and blade box set plated in gold. The maroon coloured box is lined in purple velvet and the razor handle has stamped on it “Pat. Jan 13 1920 USA.†This set is very well preserved and I've only used it once but now feel ready to give it a turn more often.

Interesting razor set you have and it could be one of the Gillette New, see here; http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Gillette Rasierer.htm
I've tried quite a few locally available blades including Dorco ST301 which I didn't get on with at all but haven't tried Astras yet, I will do so though thank you. I believe Tesco blades are Personna (which were previously made in Israel) but now made in Germany and packaged in Czech Republic according to the packaging. Fantastic blades and at £2 for a 10 pack great value - I get 3 or 4 shaves per blade with these, as I do with a Feather.Welcome to TSR.
