Glueing a knot to a handle

Hi all,

I hope this isnt too daft a question to post. I had a nice synthetic brush which I dropped and cracked the handle.

I posted it on the internet years ago and a really nice chap made me a new handle.

The other day the knot came out and I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a good glue / bonding agent that will work.

It's a well used (and loved) brush of mine.

There are a few people use

Silicon this is fairly easy to remove the knot again if you need to adjust it.

Epoxy Resin - Probably the most permanent , not so easy to adjust.

My personal choice is a Hot Glue Gun as it gives a good fix , but if you need to remove just pop in very hot water.

Thanks Russell, seems like I'll be asking my brother in law for his glue gun, it appears the best option.

I've superglued one of mine and it's survived a few shaves. It didn't work well with the silicon initially but I think that's because I failed apply enough.

I doubt you can go wrong with the answer from Russ above.

I used epoxy the last time it happened and still there a few years later.

A bit of sanding inside the hole in the handle helps

Five-minute two-part epoxy is the stuff used by many amateur or semi-pro brush makers and I've found it does work very well while requiring little or no skill to spply. Devcon is a good brand.

I use CT1 silicone sealant, it is a super adhesive, no mixing and holds incredibly well, you don't need much, about a 10p size blob and push together gently with a twisting motion. Leave overnight and you are good to go.

As other suggest an epoxy resin. I purchased a cheap one to fix two of my brushes.

Just before you do ...

If you wanted to change the depth that the knot sits at, you can use pennies to build up a base for fine-tuning exactly where you might want the knot to sit. Once you know, you can pre-fill with epoxy and allow it to set before applying the final little bit to set the knot.

I have used aquarium silicone, friendlier to user and environment than CT1 silicone I believe, though silicone can be a pain in the behind to apply.

Well the first attempt of the glue gun didnt work..... I will try again as not sure if I left it long enough.....
