Gillette blade identification

I've done a bit of googling but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Can one of our experts shed some light on the numbers on this old, unused blade?

I have some old gillette blades and can only guess that are date coded similar to the razors.

The R2 looks awfully like a date code - but would put it in the 1971 (or 1946) - and 1946 is when the original "Thin" blade was first marketed I think...

edit: No - it isn't, 1938 was the birth of the "Thin" - the packaging was changed from Red/Black to Red/Black/White in 1946 though.

Mr Razor has this Gillette New on his site which he dates to 1946 by the R2 number on the blade. So that seems as good a guess as any.

Are these the gillette thins that come in the half red half black paper. If so are they any good, as i have a few.
Did you use it Fido, how did it go.
