Gillette Aristocrat #22

I have a very nice and complete #22 set with original instructions that I have never actually shaved with. This thread has made me think about giving it a try. Didn't know that it was a 4th generation. Is it supposed to be a very mild razor?

My Aristocrat is giving me the best shaves I've ever had. I do find my #66 to ver very mild, which I really enjoy. Personally, I think its milder than the Merkur 34c HD. Had my first head shave with it today, and again the smoothest head shave I've ever had. I'm loading a Polsilver Super Iridium in mine and to me its the perfect combination.

Just bought one. Never used it yet. Can't wait to get a shave this week using it

#22 set came in both 3rd and 4th generation razor. The 4th generation is the milder, the 3rd is the perfect, IMO, a must have

Good to know that it's your favourite!
I might try it tomorrow.
It is strange how different razors of the same model can shave so differently. I've had multiple Fatboy's and the only one I've had a great shave with is a NOS stock one which I still have! Maybe it depends how much action they've seen?

Is it essentially the same head as a rocket?

I am having a love affair with rocket HD ATM.

If it shaves similarly but looks Peter I can see the love.

Interestingly I have a aristocrat jr with the #16 (3rd gen?) Head I believe. I find the HD smoother & maybe a closer shaver. There isn't much in it.

There's a lot of conflicting information on the razor head vs the shave characteristics.

I can't speak to the geometry, but I find the Aristocrat Jr mild - and the Rocket is slightly milder than that. Both give me nick and cut-free shaves. It's a pleasure to shave with either, though I prefer the Aristocrat Jr.

The #16/22 is a little more aggressive, but balances mildness and aggressiveness extremely well. Irritation and cuts don't happen (unless you mis-shave, or use too much pressure). I can get a smooth shave with any of the razors, but good prep is a bigger factor with milder razors.

I haven't felt much need to hunt after a 3rd gen )#16 as I have two aristocrat jr with the same head.

I have 2 examples of both a 1st & 2nd generation Brit aristocrats as well so think I am done with aristocrat for now.
