Thanks Shubs. I never really see much about the Fine soaps. I wonder if they're another sleeper?
I've never used any De Vergulde soaps. Do they make any other brands as well?It has been deduced that in all likelihood Fine soaps are made by De Vergulde in the Netherlands.

Worth a go mate - in my experience - humble but very good - in the class of Lea, La Toja that sort of thing - good value but it works. They sell it as a stick in a plastic holder or in a tub - a Dutch institution - the company claim to have the oldest registered trademark in the world - 460+ years - it is vegetarian and there is a fairly large amount of kaolin in the formula - it needs a bucket of water - I've found - it doesn't really smell of much - other than soap - maybe vague citrus? They do a balm as well which I rate - I'm not sure where you might buy it in Britain - my best mate's other half is Dutch and he picked it up for me when over there. If you can find you should try it - cheers - I.I've never used any De Vergulde soaps
Thanks Iain. There's an online Dutch shop called Cheapido (I kid you not) that sells the DVH range with reasonable shipping costs. I can see me buying some in the next few weeks.Worth a go mate - in my experience - humble but very good - in the class of Lea, La Toja that sort of thing - good value but it works. My main example is Imperial leather soap, this used to be superb, the bars lasted for an age and a day. Production moved from the UK to Thailand, the bars shrunk and it was reformulated using Palm oil instead of tallow. The result? Crappy bars that go all soggy and melt down the plughole well before their time. The lather isn't as good either. It's the same with most bars of soap in the UK, they used to be decent but are rubbish now.
Agree.
I only buy tallow soap bars for the bath. Asda & Morrisons their value branded soap bar, UK made nice mild scent, great soap. The unscented ones from Lidl/Aldi are pretty good as well, and if you see a Turkish shop the Duru soap blocks are tallow based and are rock hard and last for a very long time.
Why must it be frustrating if you want to try a different bar of soap! I have ten soaps in use in my bathroom and on any given day I can use what ever soap I wish to, live a little! I don't just use one shaving soap untill it's finished so it's the same with hand / bath soap.Great info and nice to hear i'm not alone with my love of tallow bath soapI only use bars of NOS soap so I really shouldn't buy any more but i'm sorely tempted when its 65p for 3 bars in Asda, just looked it up!
I use my bars of soap in the shower and in the sinks but my Mrs uses shower gel and still buys the odd pump dispenser, though she has started to come round to using proper soap in the sink, this means soap always lasts quite a long time in our house. Very frustrating when I want to try out a different soap
The NOS soaps I have include: Camay, Imperial Leather, Zest, Fairy, Knights Castile, Pears, Fairy, Shield (Aqua and Ivory). If anyone remembers these soaps be good to hear your memories of them!
Can you name them pleaseI have only seen three or four shaving soaps with tallow as main ingredient = tallow based and not just containing some tallow mixed with a vegan main base
