Presumably they finally realised that the lack of comfort in the shave was so noticeable to the user that they had to do something, or rather, been seen to be doing something, about it.
 

LOL! I remember Rory Bremner spoofing that campaign, except, in reference to Ann Widdecombe commenting that Howard had "something of the night about him", he changed the slogan to "Are you drinking what I'm drinking?
