February 2018 Acquisitions

Fine Platinum a/s and Fine American Blend a/s. Courtesy of @Olie29 who provided a quick dispatch, well-packaged items at a good price! Faultless from the seller.
Also, two decants of ADP - one is Colonia Assoluta, the other Colonia Intensa. Have tried the Intensa before and it's a lovely, leathery-citrus, slightly darker fragrance for summer months. I've not tried the Assoluta before but it should be a good one!

Just noticed the price hike on Fine yesterday, browsing ShaveLounge (as you do...) Platinum & American Blend are £25 each now

Apparently Fine are playing difficult right now regarding pricing for overseas vendors (i.e. outside of the US). They've also hiked up their prices internally so double whammy for us brits. Very fortunate to have been sold these ones at the price I got them! Apparently, Shaving Station are going to re-look into stocking them as price fluctuations have stagnated more recently... I reckon they'll still be dear, though.

Mr Fine's products contain only Alcohol, Water, Fragrance, and Menthol... No skin goodies whatsoever. The scents are synthetic so he cannot blame the price increase on raw materials, glass bottles arent expensive (Superdrug £1.99 aftershave comes in a glass bottle.) Its greed, pure & simple... On a scale that makes the "3 T's" look positively charitable

What he has in his favour of course is lack of competition, and he knows it (thats the real reason for the hike.) RazoRock are the next best thing which isn't much of a comfort as they're (mostly) crap. Its a pity no UK artisans are willing to pick up the torch, they have the noses to do it, their soaps are testament to that but all we get is crummy balms and "tonics"

Lalique Encre Noire Sport - a damp-woodsy base with some tangy grapefruit at the forefront. Would never have opted for this had it not come up stupidly cheap for a barely-used bottle! Gorgeous minimalistic bottle, too.

Midnight in Paris EDP - a discontinued gem. Again a blind-buy for a good price, especially as prices seem to be climbing. A truly stunning bottle and fragrance to match. Soft, powdery tonka-leather mixture. Needs a good wear.

Edit: I'll take a couple of photos later.

I hope you like yours Mr P Fox, I've really enjoyed using mine - I find mine to be smooth and efficient and my appreciation of open comb razors is growing by the day.

I've read your posts describing your enthusiasm for your Parker 24C and I'd be intrigued in your thoughts in how it compares to the Yaqi DOC, as even though I have no need for another OC razor the Parker 24C has been calling to me for a while as the handle would be a great fit with the Yaqi DOC (I know, excuses excuses...)
