Fat February 2026

Like @pjgh I've been really impressed with the first reformulation of MWF and I'll be using rotating this with the tallow MWF for the rest of the month, probably with a limited outings for a few other lanolin soaps. Paul sent me a sample of this soap, there's probably enough for about another 20 odd shaves so it should see me through for a few weeks at least.

To me, the soap feels really refined ... and quite worthy of a polished wooden bowl rather than ceramic.

I'm switching to SFS for this week and will be onto the second reformulation of MWF for the final week of February. Personally, I think that second formulation eclipsed both this first formulation AND the tallowate. This first reformulation certainly has it's place.

Scottish Fine Soaps (c.2000s?) Shaving Soap & Boots (Vintage) Pure Bristle
Gillette Sensor (Chrome) & Gillette Sensor 3 (1)
DR Harris Pink Aftershave

Kicking off the third week of this holy month of Fat February with the very fine historical Scottish Fine Soaps.

Hope you're all still having a lotta lanolin fun!

... and end of another week, which I've been using the very lovely historical (c.2000s) Scottish Fine Soap which holds the following INCI list: Potassium Tallowate, Sodium Tallowate, Aqua (Water), Sodium Cocoate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Chloride, Lanolin, Titanium Dioxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Magnesium Sulphate, Sodium Sliicate, Sodium Gluconate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Alpha Isomethyl Ionene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool

Compare that to MWF Tallowate formulation: Sodium Tallowate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Stearate, Aqua (Water), Potassium Cocoate, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), AlphaIsomethyl Ionone, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Lanolin, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Silicate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Magnesium Sulphate & Tetrasodium Etidronate

Hate to say it, but ... it's better. It is. It really is.

Notice both have "Sodium Silicate" and "Sodium Gluconate" which are two ingredients that you almost don't see in any other soaps? There has to be a link between these two. I'd love to know.

Anyway, into the home straight as they say and next week I'll be finishing the month with the final formulation from Mitchell's which I happen to think eclipses the tallowate formulation by some margin ... and possibly like Scottish Fine Soaps offering also.

Mitchell's Wool Fat (Reformulation 2024) Shaving Soap & Omega 10098 Pure Bristle
Gillette Sensor (Chrome) & Gillette Sensor 3 (5)
DR Harris Sandalwood Aftershave

Final week of this super tradition of using lanolin soaps for Fat February and my choice for this week is the final formulation from Mitchell's which personally, I think eclipses even the tallowate version. Furthermore, it brought a solution to all those folks who had issues lathering the tallowate Mitchell's and for a brief period all was well with the (shaving) world.

Miserable shave!

I like to keep the original hair in my vintage brushes when possible, but this one is just a sloppy mop, and it's permanently twisted no matter how I try to fix it. If I have a replacement knot it will be replaced.

I usually use a de-spined and clipped GEM blade in this razor, but since I have some of those stupid spineless Feathers I plugged one of those in. An uncomfortable shave with crappy results was my reward, NEVER AGAIN!!!
