SE - Single Edge - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html</a><!-- m --> - Not so common these days outside Razor scrapers / Modeling.
Essentially a slightly thicker blade with only one edge and a reinforced spine. SE razors generally require a different shaving technique, and arguably give a shave that feels closer to a straight than a traditional DE. (Depends on who you argue with..)
I've recently become an Ever Ready fan, and wondered if there's a history / guide to the razors anywhere on t'internet?
Or is there any way to date them? I'm curious to know how old the ones I have are as they're in great nick.
Ive not found one online - just the usual bits and bobs sourced here and there.
Being an aspiring razor geek im currently reading 'Before Gillette' by Robert Waits (Covers from Perrets safety guard to Gillettes first Patent) and the history of Ever-Ready / Gem and ASR is a twisted web that it seems no one actually knows the full story.
Most of the razors tho have the Patent date marked on the heads - discounting different handles there's 3 designs Ive found so far.
Ive done a side and back of them bellow
From left to right the Patent 1912 , the Patent 1914 , and unmarked - but i believe to be a Patent 1918
(Apologies for poor photo , Ive not got a light box or decent close up rig)
