Email Notifications Problem

Greetings

I am receiving a lot of e-mail alerts which I did not get prior to the site going down and coming back online. How do I stop them please, I am more than happy with the little red alert number at the top of the forum pages. alert preferences only seems to apply to those and not the e-mails. I guess I am doing something wrong!

If you go to just Preferences Dick, the email alert option is there Second tickbox down, slightly indented.
