I'm guessing you went with a dry skin condition and the "you should NEVER..." comment was regarding your skin type.I was told by a Consultant Dermatologist that you should NEVER put alcohol based aftershave or cologne on freshly shaved skin as it causes the skin to shrivel and causes it to dry out. Just use a balm to help moisturise the skin as shaving removes some of the skins oils.
There is a fullstop not a comma.Quoted the wrong post maybe?
I have no bias against alcohol based aftershaves. I own two and use them. Infrequently, because I am aware of alum
What?There is a fullstop not a comma.
Sorry, but you should have learnt sentence construction at school. Please read it again. What?
Not everyone uses or is aware of allumI shave (usually) every two days. After a shave I use a balm, then an EDT.
On the day off I use a moisturiser. I own 2 aftershaves- Old Spice and Pinaud Clubman. But I hardly use them.
I use an alum block for the antiseptic effect, then the balm to moisturize, and the EDTfor scent. I can't see what an aftershave can add to that combination.

Replying to the post above.

New sentence, different subject.
I was 24 at the time and I actually went with Impetigo - Impetigo is a common and highly contagious skin infection that causes sores and blisters - and I was told that it would leave my skin thin and that it could possibly mean that I wouldn't be able to shave as it would rip my skin to bits, which it did, so I had a beard for 41 years. I've even heard other shaving professionals say exactly the same thing, But each to his own.I'm guessing you went with a dry skin condition and the "you should NEVER..." comment was regarding your skin type.
What everyone needs to do imo, is find a solution to suit.
I have a chronic (on going) non-specific skin condition, called eczema when I was a child, it's now called dermititis.I was 24 at the time and I actually went with Impetigo - Impetigo is a common and highly contagious skin infection that causes sores and blisters - and I was told that it would leave my skin thin and that it could possibly mean that I wouldn't be able to shave as it would rip my skin to bits, which it did, so I had a beard for 41 years. I've yet to come across a balm that does anything for me other than leaving my face feeling greasy and itchy. On the other hand an alcohol-based aftershave splash works very well especially if it has a touch of menthol. The splash leaves my face feeling clean, refreshed and irritation-free. Skip the balm.
I second that, the balm is brill. The lotion takes a long time to dry though so you might want to avoid that.Try ( Tried? ) barts?
