I was in a major hurry this morning, and broke every rule in the book with my shave.
I shaved while I was still in the bath. I face lathered the cream quickly with my hands and then my brush. Then I held the mirror in one hand and shaved with the other. I used a 4 day old Crystal Super Platinum in my Edwin Jagger DE89L. To rinse I just submerged.
When I got out the tub I just moisturised. No alum, no balm and no a/s. Then I was out the door.
So lets have a look at the rules I broke:
Shaved lying down
Without a proper pre-shave
Without using 2 hands to stretch the skin
Using only 1 WTG pass
With a half blunt blade
Without any real post-shave routine[/list:u]
And yet, I have to say the shave I got today is pretty damn fine Very close for a 1 pass shave, and no irritation.
Great razor, half decent blade - scraped properly across your face. Accounts for a very high proportion of the available marks? All the refinements enable fine tuning? Interesting post.
I shave in the bath all the time.. its comfy.
Plus i find i actually get a better shave out of it becuase i tend to lie back with a wet cloth over my face just daydreaming....
My face is so prepped its hard NOT to have a good shave..
I wouldn't advise any newcomers to "rush" their first shaves, not even with a 4-day old blade. (Unless the OP would have added that he lost his alum block in the bath tub, cause that's what newcomers will need after a speedy shave)
