DE Blade advice for a newbie..

Just shave over it and over time it will disappear, how many uses......how long is a peice of string? It depends on many factors, it could be from one shave up to ten! When the blade starts to feel uncomfortable and is not cutting as well that is the time to replace, so if with a particular blade it needs changing at shave four change after the third shave. You will find different blades last longer than others.
I only use a blade two or three times before I change it but you may find different. We are all different, . P.

I agree on blades. When I first started shaving, and my technique (predominantly angle) was poor, 3 shaves was enough before the blade was done. Now I can get 5 shaves comfortably. I could push it to 7-10, but why bother when blades are cheap.

And BJS ref your nose, piggy it with your thumb or push your lip down.

Here's my 2 bobs worth of advice.
Firstly your choice of razor is excellent..the Gillette tech is a wonderful little razor,...

With good reason Gillette made this one from 1939 - 1973 in house: austere genius.
...i've trained my mind to shave "the lather from my face, rather than the stubble",...

Exactly. To reach your destination you have to follow the pavement.

Well, Brian... woohoo!!!

Practice makes perfect...

Three good blades, stick with them, to find three blades that work for you early on is good news. P.

Success, I have followed your excellent advice and todays shave, I have to say was a success. No cuts, no nicks and minimal razor burn, although I did only go wtg, but I think it's a good start point and one I can hopefully improve upon.
Good progress but don't focus too much on the razor handle. You only need to manipulate the razor with the lightest touch and balance is more important in that respect. Good lather is a very important element to a good shave so keep working on that and easy multiple passes will follow.

They are sharp blades, seven passes with no irritation and stubble still left would point towards you not having the correct angle on your razor therfore not cutting properly.......or it may just be you had a dud blade, it does happen from time to time. Try another Voskhod blade in the same razor and see if you get the same results. P.

I agree with Blademonkey, I would add that you really do need to take your time with shaving this way.

When i first started, Once I was in front of the mirror, I would check and recheck the angle of the blade against my face.

Although initially I thought I wasnt getting any hair, on changing the angle voila!! Cut hair.....clean shaven (after many shaves).

There are better men here than me, but is there a lot of blade exposed when in the razor? ( I'm thinking of the set up). Try again with anot her blade and check from there.

Keep us posted ok.

Good luck mark
