We now have a limited quantity of the only Coates Shaving brush available for sale at TGS.

This attractive little Coate's branded shaving brush has a hand lathe-turned handle and is filled with pure badger hair. Simpsons produced this line of "Fitzwilliam" brushes under the Coate's brand name but as far as we know, they have never before been offered for sale. They date from before the Vulfix take over of the Simpson brand and were manufactured in Somerset, around 10 years ago.

The graduated handle shape has lamp blacked detail to both sides, that's why I have pictured more than one in the photograph .

James Coate established his first brush works in London in 1847 but moved out to Somerset in 1883, opening factories in Axminster and Chard. Coate's later amalgamated with A Simpson, another brush manufacturer.
