What's the norm for cleaning razors and brushes when trading items?

I've read people say that items are Barbicided which believe used in salons but for normal people is it just a case of using stuff like Detol and would that be viable on brushes.

I haven't tried cleaning a brush but for razors I use hot water, dish soap and a toothbrush. For extra stubborn stains it gets a rinse in Steradent. I finish off with a Barbicide bath. It's available on eBay or ask your Barber for some if you're on good terms. That's what I did.

If a brush is rinsed thoroughly an annual soak in a borax or vinegar solution would be ample to clean. Some people use shampoo and conditioner.
