Holy pissing lumberjack.

Here are a few vintage soaps, mainly Yardley. I do have a Black Label in a plastic container similar to the one above. Now where is it? I added the Kent as I found another original MWF Kent tallow puck.

Now we are always going to be beaten in a pissing contest, but come on guys show yours...

Lovely vintage stuff here ... what's the Lavender (second from left bottom row)? Mitchum?

I suppose I really ought to sort myself out with a wooden Kent bowl.

Oops, I seem to ge pulling a fast one. It's a Wembdon of New York from the 1930's

By coincidence, I do have a Mitcham Lavender collection...

Floris Elite is half price in a wooden bowl. Is the current formulation any good?
Note that they've just changed formulation and I've yet to hear from anyone who has used it. The previous incarnation (up to 2024) produced a superb lather and looking at the ingredient changes in the new formulation, I've absolutely no reason to think it wouldn't be as good as the rest of the gang who moved to similar formulations.

It does (still) have shea butter in, which is not to my liking ... and so it's won't be me trying it. Vintage Floris only, for me.

Great collection there. I have some of those but in duplicate rather than a wider range like yours.

I would love to know what they put in some of those older soaps. Could be panda poo and moon dust for all I know
Likewise ... and it really is a guess, but we can take a stab at the main ingredients if you have a in-shave/post-shave face-feel for tallowate and/or stearate. I started a thread on it here: https://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/co...shaving-soaps-actually-tallowate-based.60165/ ... and think we did come to the conclusion that practically all were tallowate prior to the 1980s. My theory was that palmate might have been more widespread, particularly given it was a HUGE industry going back to the end of the C19th ... but my face-feel only found a couple of anomalies.

While I really like vintage and consider myself a vintage-head, it is actually those c.2013 palmate formulations from the British Cartel that I absolutely love using. Beyond what I have pictured here, the rest of my collection is quite literally Arko, Derby, Cella, 3P, TFS, Vitos ... couple of Meissner Tremonia hard soaps, BeeClean (artisinal/bathtub) & Lasheba (old artisinal/bathtub) and a very small number of creams (rarely used).

I like hard soaps. I like discontinued and vintage hard soaps ... glad 2024 brought a seachange in formulation that I think has revitalised hard soaps, although on paper they appear VERY much the same as each other now.

T&H Refills, what size are these, do they share a mould with any other hard soaps?

Same dimensions as Trumpers (about 84mm diameter) ... and fit Trumpers bowls happily. Bit of a squeeze to push into TOBS or DR Harris bowls whose soaps are 80mm (DRH) to 81mm (TOBS) in diameter.

IMG_5085.jpeg

Top Left - Trumpers
Bottom Left - T&H
Top Right - DRH
Bottom Right - TOBS

Another angle to show how domed, but understand my T&H is quite well used and I lather off the bottom of the cake (held in my hand) rather than the top in the bowl.

IMG_5086.jpeg

From new, the T&H (bottom left) is far more like the Trumpers (top left).
