Personally, bay rum leaves me flat. After all, who want to smell like something they eat? That said, the aforementioned Krampert's is pretty much universally acclaimed to be the most potent of the lot.

Different type of Bay! Bay Rum is from West Indies Bay and not culinary Bay trees. The former is actually toxic in high enough quantities (when eaten/drunk). Edit: I know one of the derivatives of West Indies Bay used is pimenta racemosa.

Proprietary bay rum lotions are produced by labs in several West Indian countries, as well as American and European fragrance companies. The original bay rum from St. Thomas by A. H. Riise continues to be produced locally in the US Virgin Islands by the West Indies Bay Company.[8]

The bay laurel, the "bay leaves" in common culinary use, are from a completely unrelated species, Laurus nobilis, and not the West Indian bay tree. Bay laurel can be used to produce a similar, although not identical, product.
