Buying a razor on looks is always a pig in a poke. One reviewer said it was nice but could have been more aggressive. Another disagreed.
I remember buying a DS T7 zinc head from Ali, really liked it's mild/aggressive take, and went on to buy the S/S version. Pointless, of course.

Oh that ? - haha - it's a palm fibre tawashi pan and dish scrubber - I used it a razor stand - used them living in China for 15 years and they bring back happy memories doing the dishes lol !
I also did a hack to my nylon washing-up brushes to stop the bristles splaying apart - used a plastic collar from a PTFE plumbers / gas fitters tape, drilled 3 little holes in the brush and secured with thin single core wire - the used one is 2 - 3 years old and still got a bit of life left in it lol !
I'm crazy - I drill cigarette lighters and put a ring on 'em to stop them getting lost and pinched.

Do you find it to be a rather gentle razor or more aggressive?
I haven't tried a Gem razor, but I'd be curious to know how it works.

Well, with double edge razors it's all about the angle. Not so with a Gem. I'm not the most knowledgeable here regarding it, but the main point is that you have the blade flat on your face. The flat "cap" is your guard. It isn't difficult to shave the flats of your face, but a little practice is a help when shaving the curves. The twin half-blade razor is the same. A flat cap, and shave keeping it flat on your face.
Gem razors are cheap, and nice to use for the experience. The twin half-blade is like a disposable, in that the blades are flat and not scraping your skin at an angle. I would say both razors are gentle, and I don't get sore with either one.
@pjgh gave me some starting advice on the Gem - Ride the cap flat.

Not a massive saving but I think this is very good value. I’ve always loved pale, sturdy Ash with its contrasting grain patterns.

Ah, but that's a copy of a razor from well over 100 years ago ... value has already been extracted. The Labs have "latest tech" (straight from the Lab, yeah!) and "colour-incentivised marketing". That comes at a price, don't you know.

Absolutely! This has been GIllette's marketing model since ... well, forever. They deliberately made their razors not work with competitors blades and when they got out-patented by Gaismann, he took over the company and simply carried on ... often just buying up the competition.
