Back at the lathe

The garage aka workshop has been a dumping ground for the last 18 months but today I cleared it out (partly) and got my hands back on my turning tools.

A quick play and I came up with this, not planned out so I drilled a 25mm hole for a knot which is probably a little big. The wood I believe to be walnut it was was from a large lump that was given to me a couple of years ago.

I'd but a brush with a handle like that. It looks beautiful.

It needs more finish, a couple of coats of Danish Oil probably.

I'm not keen on a high gloss look for most finishes but burl can definitely take it.

...must be all the limos.

Neither am I, but for a shaving brush handle, use conditions almost demand a glossy finish; durable, waterproof matte finishes are hard to obtain...
