Started this earlier. Knot cut down, sanded some nasty scratches out with 600 800 1200 wet & dry. Next to drill out the knot, polish it up & then measure for a new knot. Progress so far....

Perfect! So many use washers or coins to fill the void, but I use plastic caps or flat plastic that I cut into discs. When working with vintage handles I don't want to change the weight or balance, I want to enjoy the original feel as much as possible. You are doing a fine job on that brush. Avoid overly hot water, those old ferrules don't like it.

When setting the height, I've always used pennies to get the height right. Mocked up. I've often left it a day or so and looked at it from a few angles before committing. At that point, I mark the inside with a pen and pre-fill to that level with epoxy. Let it set. Then set the knot on the base of cured epoxy base with a dot of fresh epoxy, large enough to squish up the sides then the knot if pressed home.
