Acquisitions - March 2025

I've been enjoying my recent shaves with my gem micromatic, so I've ended up on eBay for a few more SE razors. This arrived today, in pretty sure it's a 1912 but if anyone knows different please tell me. Got a streamline on the way as well which I'm quite excited about.

That is indeed a 1912. The best. American flat cap (as opposed to curved cap of the earlier era) ... c.1919 onwards. Enjoy! You will :)

In my opinion a worthy purchase to break the 2025 shaving restraint.

All appears to be N.O.S and probably early to mid-1960s.

Brush is still in its original container, which is why it looks so dusty (the dust is on the inside and came in through two holes at the top).
Some sellotape is still holding the container lid in place whilst another piece of tape has succumbed to time and is loose in the box.

Through the bottom of the thin plastic base you can just about see the printing for the cardboard insert which is still sandwiched inside the bottom of the container.

2x Gillette Silver blades, still sealed. Unfortunately can't see a date code without opening them. Razor is made in England so no date code there either but we know the right time period.

Nice mirror of the Gillette logo here. Notice the large burr on the clear plastic edge! There are also some sharp lines inside the blue plastic moulding.

I don't want to fill up this thread with loads of photos of my purchase so I've created another thread if you want to see more:

Little bottle of the matching splash as well.

Ingredients list follows the pre-2011 Standard Company Ltd formulation, so guess it was one of theirs. Circa 1990s, at a guess.

Very nice! Not seen the soap before. I have the same bottle in a fancy and oversized cardboard box. Not tried that aftershave but I have other bottles of Blue Blazer and I really like it.

The SS14 postcode is Basildon (in stark contrast to the ostensibly up-market image of Yardley - probably why only the postcode is mentioned not the town)!
I believe they closed the Basildon operation in 1999.

Haha! Yes, "Yardley of Old Bond Street House ... Basildon" doesn't have quite the same ring.

Cheers! Really pleased I finally pulled the trigger on this one. Preliminary sniff of the aftershave and I think that little sampler will be agreeable. Looking at the scent profile, I think it reads as a cleaner Drakkar Noir.
