5 pucks of Scottish Fine Soaps and another Boots Shaving kit which I only bought gor the tallow soap and box.
I got one of them, but the hinge got damaged during shipping.

Is the soap any good?

In December I received an old spice shaving soap in a mug, partially used.

I gave it a go, and loved it!

But now I understand what people mean about having cake and eating it. I love it and want to use it, but I know it won't last forever.

So I purchase B&M spice from slick boys.
Very impressed. I May make this my daily driver. Apart from the occasional tabac cream.

I also got a partially used seville and a partially used Cheshire from ebay. Not sure how I feel about the scents of them. I may post in the swap forum to see if anyone wants to swap one of them for leviathan.

BTW, can anyone recommend any more old spice dupes currently for sale in the UK? Or that will ship to the UK?

Signature Novus a spice is a very good dupe and a very good soap.
@BrianH is the maker and member here.

I have used one of the boots puck before. I found it pretty decent.

Boots soap?

From that era, the formulation is likely: Potassium Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Aqua (Water), Sodium Methyl Cocyl Taurate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Pentesodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate ... and makes for a pretty good hard soap. The ingredient in bold is rarely seen in shaving soap formulations.

The later black plastic bowl formulation is quite superb! Potassium Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Aqua (Water), Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Dipropylene Glycol, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Limonene, CI 77891 ... and very close in performance to a number of good hard soaps of the day from Dr Dittmar to Muhle and very close to what was sold under the Woods of Windsor branding when they sold a good shaving soap.

Have fun!

Cool! The older Tallowate. Useful to know the item code - cheers!

One of mine is just a tad older and didn't have an item code:

Tracing the history through, I have the following INCI lists:

c.1990s? red/black plastic bowls ... and Item Code 30-87-093 < really good!
Sodium Tallowate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Aqua (Water), Sodium Palm Kernelate, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoate, Glycerine, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Gluconate, Magnesium Sulphate

c.2000s early - sold under wellbeing.com domain name prior to boots.com Item Code 26-89-405 ... and as boots.com Item Code 46-96-751
Potassium Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Aqua (Water), Sodium Methyl Cocyl Taurate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Pentesodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate ... these were often sold with twin blade (II-type) razors earlier were fixed head and later with swivel head (Contour style).

Return of the Tallowate mid-2000s? Monogram Set Item Code 91-32-597 < not as good as the older tallowate
Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Palmate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Potassium Palmate, Sodium Cocoate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Aqua, Glycerin, Parfum, CI 77891, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Gluconate, PEG-14M, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Pentasodium Pentetate

Last good formulation - sold in black plastic bowls ... and those ceramic pots < best formulation IMO (moreso than the tallowate)
Potassium Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Aqua (Water), Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Dipropylene Glycol, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Limonene, CI 77891

For sticks, we have ...

Older stick with fanged red bars (c.1990s/early 2000s)
Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Perfume, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Silicate, Magnesium Sulfate, Disodium Distyrylbiphenyl Disulfonate, Sodium Chloride, CI77891

Later, with straight red bars (c.2010s)
Sodium Palmate, Potassium Palmate, Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Aqua, Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum, Hexyl Cinnamal, Lauric Acid, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Eugenol, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Edta, Tetrasodioum Etidronate, Pentasodium Pentetate, CI 77891 ... slight twist on the black bowl soap

Notice no domain name (or e symbol) on the fanged bar stick (right) placing it somewhere in the 1990s. The straight bar stick has both the e symbol (came in end of 1990s) and boots.com (c.2004 once wrestled from previous owner) ... Boots were wellbeing.com from the early 2000s until they got the boots.com domain name.

I think Boots kit was somewhat underrated.

I scored another vintage shaving kit from Boots with this: 1736506790774.jpeg

IMG_2157.jpegI seem to be into brushes & am upping my brush game in 2025, as I’m learning what I do & don’t like in terms of knots, handles, size, ergonomics, aesthetics etc. This is not the best hobby for a minimalist in all other areas of life, but I’m trying to be disciplined and have moved on 2 brushes that I liked but did not love, to make way for this purchase.

AP Slim with 22 mm G5C
AP Honey Hive with 24 mm AP Lux mix boar & badger

Nice. I'd been tempted by the 22mm G5C. It's my favourite size for knots but sometimes there aren't that many options, good to see ApSc release something a bit smaller.
