... a Treet for your face?

That is interesting, indeed!

So, basic stainless ... which have been dropped from the global line-up (Trig, Trim, King & Tjax), then premium platinum of which the 7 Days is simply a repackaging (which we knew and/or very much suspected). The blade sharpness project on B&B found this to be a theme, although the Trig was found to be noticeably sharper than any of the others hence my thoughts about that being the premium/flagship branding (and there was that older Durasharp packaging shown).

The blade sharpness project actually found three grinds in the carbon blades, but I think we might be seeing a pattern when there is no pattern. Certainly, the Durasharp was not found to be substantially different from the rest of the white carbon blades certainly I thought that was a standaout/premium/flagship blade while the rest were simply marketing. That is confirmed here.

That said, there's the Black Beauty (which they don't refer to in this correspondence) which was found to be considerably dull ... and we already know that. It is a different blade, finish and specifcation to the other white carbon blades. There is the Falcon, though, which I found to be dull and markedly different to the other white carbon blades - the blade sharpness project thought that to be the Black Beauty grind on a legacy packaged white carbon blade.

I think the most interesting point here is that they state the Durasharp to be the same specification as the rest of the white carbon blades. I am sure we shavers generally disagree, but then myself included we thought the 7 Days to be sharper and longer lasting than the Platinum when in fact they're the same blade.

Occam's Razor? Yeah, the carbons are all the same, the stainless are the same with a premium branding that gets the additional platinum treatment (treetment?) and then there's the legacy Black Beauty. Makes sense. Makes sense as we see this with Derby, Lord (all brands of the same type - stainless, chrome or platinum are the same blades) ... and yes, Gillette!

Gillette is getting more transparent now that production is moving around with the likes of the new Indian Astra Super Platinum being confirmed as the 7 O'Clock Super Platinum and the new Chinese King C Gillette being the same blade as their Super Thin Platinum. Same, same, same ... so by extenstion, they must have been the same as something else when they were produced in St Petersburg.

I've long thought that the Silver Blue, 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge and PermaSharp Super were the self-same blade. There must be more. Daft thing is, I like all three and for different reasons and will pick one over another for different reasons ... but chances are they're all the same blade. Likewise, the Durasharp versus the Classic (or any other white carbon) or the regular Platinum vs the 7 Days. The marketing DOES have an impact!

Really interesting Shubs - good spot and thanks for posting.

TLDR?

Platinum & 7 Days Platinum - same blade (premium)
Trig, King, Trim & Tjax - same stainless blade (basic)
Durasharp, Classic, New Steel, New Edge, Tez, Power, Silver & Falcon - same white carbon blade (chromium coated)
Black Beauty - lesser grind (electrostatic blue)

Easy.

The Russian Gillettes you mentioned, there was a thread on B&B a while back that had pictures and analysis of the blade edges. The Silver Blue actually had platinum on it's edge, and the others you mentioned had clear different grinds. No idea whether they have standardised their lines now but they were different blades back then.

I found the the two different packaging with the Gillette Platinum branding, I thought the blades would be the same but they were clearly different blades. One was much sharper than the other!

I've still not got around to trying the new Indian made Astra SP. I really like Indian Gillettes so I am sure I will like it.

Really? I was just about to buy some expensive 7 O'Clock Platinum after hearing so many rave reviews.

Are the Indian Astra really confirmed as the same blade?

I can't land on anything specific, but concensus gleaned from posts since production was moved to India. Face-feel? I'd agree.

A guy I exchange messages with on the B&B forum mentioned in another post, PPI Russia are still making Astra SP's. I think his summary was Indian Astra SP's are sold to markets where there is an embargo for Russian goods (eg Eastern Europe) but places like Turkey, which doesn't have an embargo AFAIK, they are still making Russian Astra SP's for that market. I think he received a packet of 2024 Russian Astra SP's perhaps?

So, further mutterings over on B&B ... but the fellow who has a contact at Treet pressed for some clarification and the came back with:

There you have it.

Just placed an order with the Razor Blade club for Treet 7 day, Treet Dura Sharp, Treet Platinum and Lord Silver Star. 30 of each.

Just nice to have options in the stash. Don't know whether they will be any better than what I already have but worth a try for very little money.

Thought the same when I ordered the Gillette Nacet but that turned out really well. Great blade.

The thing that struck me is the thinness of the steel. Compared to Gillette, Personna, Lord then these Treets are fag paper thin. Very flexible.

I loaded a "7 days" into a Muhle 89 for WTG and a "Dura Sharp" in a EJ89 for ATG.

Bit apprehensive to start but should not have worried. These are great blades. Really smooth shave. Totally BBS.

I will try the other two over the weekend. Silver Star and Platinum.

Actually (yeah ... "actually" said with some snideness, haha), Treet carbon blades are all 95 micro with the exception of the Falcon at 100 microns. Their Platinums are also 95 micro, while their regular stainless are 90 microns. Compared, Gillette tend to be 90 microns (shocker!), Lord mostly 95 ... Personna mostly 100 micron.

See if you find a difference between the 7 Days and the orange Platinum.
