I received one of the razors that Augustin at Atelier Durdan has provided for a few shave forums in the USA & UK/Europe for shave enthusiasts to sample and experience. This is the Horizon with the ability to adjust both blade exposure & blade gap (gap adjustment is much more minut compared to guard span to blade exposure but, it’s noticeable from 1 to the max 8 setting) for more precise shave adjustment as one may need. It works on a slide scale and is quite ingenious from Atelier Durdan in implementing. It does however allow for a much bigger footprint of the the razor head compared to the sleek looking and thin profile of the Blackland Vector, Alpha Spirit & Claymore Evo Artist Club style razors. However, it actually feels more like a traditional DE razor just with a wider path and its single edge make up.
I’ve shaved with it a few times (twice with a Schick Proline, once with the Feather Pro) and they have been all excellent shaves with today’s shave with the Pro being done at the max setting of #8 on the adjustment scale. Assertive & efficient but, not intimidating in the least and still very comfortable and quite smooth on the skin. No mishaps of any kind and zero irritation and skin disturbance.
Truly a work of fine craftsmanship with an excellent pedigree in both performance & comfort that is synonymous from this small batch artisan razor maker. Exceptional quality from the get go as with all of his other products, the Horizon looks to be another one that proves the talent of this maker. Soon to be available by the end of this month are the reports coming from Atelier Durdan. Just a heads up from those who might be interested in this razor.
