A new Adjustable. The Horizon Artist Club SE by Atelier Durdan.

I received one of the razors that Augustin at Atelier Durdan has provided for a few shave forums in the USA & UK/Europe for shave enthusiasts to sample and experience. This is the Horizon with the ability to adjust both blade exposure & blade gap (gap adjustment is much more minut compared to guard span to blade exposure but, it’s noticeable from 1 to the max 8 setting) for more precise shave adjustment as one may need. It works on a slide scale and is quite ingenious from Atelier Durdan in implementing. It does however allow for a much bigger footprint of the the razor head compared to the sleek looking and thin profile of the Blackland Vector, Alpha Spirit & Claymore Evo Artist Club style razors. However, it actually feels more like a traditional DE razor just with a wider path and its single edge make up.

I’ve shaved with it a few times (twice with a Schick Proline, once with the Feather Pro) and they have been all excellent shaves with today’s shave with the Pro being done at the max setting of #8 on the adjustment scale. Assertive & efficient but, not intimidating in the least and still very comfortable and quite smooth on the skin. No mishaps of any kind and zero irritation and skin disturbance.

Truly a work of fine craftsmanship with an excellent pedigree in both performance & comfort that is synonymous from this small batch artisan razor maker. Exceptional quality from the get go as with all of his other products, the Horizon looks to be another one that proves the talent of this maker. Soon to be available by the end of this month are the reports coming from Atelier Durdan. Just a heads up from those who might be interested in this razor.

Marvelous shave. Super smooth & comfy with a nice glide on the skin that feels a tad bit better than the Stainless version that I sampled in the pass around. Or maybe I’m just imagining things and there’s nothing to it. Regardless, the shave was relaxing, comfortable and superbly efficient. Nothing to complain about at the moment.

The more I use this razor, the more I get drawn in to its astounding aesthetics and excellent performance. I have still yet to experience a shave that was not to my satisfaction or dislike a particular set up in blade choice that the Horizon has not played well with. Feather, KAI & Schick have all worked flawlessly in this razor at nearly every setting along the adjustment path. The Feather has taken a slight bit of a lead over the other two in terms of blade sharpness and early shave performance but, the Schick Proline & KAI Captain/Pink take the slight edge in initial and subsequent smoothness fronts. Regardless, the Horizon just simply shines with either of them and the true winner is my face when an exquisite shave is executed in 3 passes to near shave perfection.

Simply fantastic in every way. Went to the max for all 3 passes and it simply ate up the whiskers with superb comfort & effectiveness. The Schick Proline for me works best in the Horizon in the upper ranges from setting 6 & onward. Both Feather Pro & Super work exceptionally well throughout the whole range practically with the Super gaining the edge at setting 1 & 2. With whatever one blade uses and feels most comfortable with, the Horizon will deliver steadfast performance in its cutting ability while still administering exceptional smoothness and comfort on the skin on both face & neck throughout its range. Fantastic razor.

Comparison with a WR4 if you’ve used one, I’m “torn” between the 2 of them but $’s dictate 1 ONLY

It was up for a shave and not a single issue or disappointment to report. There isn’t a negative thing to say about this razor perhaps only to say that it has some substantial weight to it. I truly believe that in a Titanium alloy, this razor would be one of the greats ever created. Conversely, I still love the weight and size that it has in the Brass Alloy. Not a cheap or economical acquisition in the least in whatever alloy one desires it in nor a practical one for the regular user unless one has saved a few coins to acquire one to solely serve indulgence & luxury in a shave tool with world class craftsmanship. It’s innovative and a true work of art.
