I was in another antique shop today looking for DE razors but found nothing of interest but the guy had alot of open razors so I picked out a few and did a trade with some old cutlery I had wanted to off load.
so could any of these be turned into useable shavers?

the first one came in a box marked F.W Hayward Melksham I picked it ou for the local connection.
it is marked silver steel warrented.

The next one is marked R.H & sons and has the celebrated sheffield hollow ground.

And the last blades are a pair they are marked Joseph rodgers & sons cutlers to their majesty. after that its a bit difficult to read it might be n95 or n25 norfolk street sheffield.

So could any or all of these be restored to a state of shave ready or have I aquired a load of old tat?
also if anyone can tell me anything about these I would be interested to hear.

Well they all look quite good. The main thing is not pitting along the cutting edges( pitting is small holes or indents from rust) They all look nearly clear from the picture. The dovo chip looks like it might just hone out with out cutting in the stabiliser. The joseph rodgers pair look like barber notch wedge blades with ivory scales joseph rodgers are one of my favourite razors
Dont know much more about the other two but these are nice looking razors

They all look fairly decent - some very good! The celebrated Sheffield looks like it might have a bevel problem, though, and the last pair are often unknowns until you hone them - then any spine deformations begin apparent. The chip on the Dovo is do-able: if it gets too close to the stabiliser, the stabiliser end could be ground back a bit so it doesn't interfere with honing too much.

That's just from a honing perspective though - to clean them up properly is another (and expensive) matter, unless you do it yourself.

Neil

Thanks Neil pm sent.

Just to let thems who might be interested in the pics posted know all the razors were boxed with the exception of the matching pair of straights which came in a leather pouch. I also have been googleing and found out that with the royal warrents the referance to their majesty refers to Victoria and Albert. I like that, I feel a bit nostalgic now. ok I've got to stop posting the whisky is kicking in
