I am totally stealing the idea for this from @MarkB from the "film" thread as it had me think which three I would pick - and curious what others would pick...
For me it's;
James Bond: Sean Connery,
Sherlock: Jeremy Brett,
Doctor Who: Matt Smith (I disliked him at first then he really grew on me) *Honorary mention to Tom Baker
Best Bond?
David Niven
Good shoutfor dr who, ive always thought christopher walken would make a fantastic doctor. i know hes american, but...
Daniel Craig had potential but he's got a 50% success rate. I enjoyed Casino Royale and Skyfall, but Quantum of Solace and Spectre sucked.

Hugh Laurie would be great!
I agree. I love the first few 1960s Bond films because they are so stylish - the cars, the clothes and the music. I was also lucky enough to have met John Stears, who was responsible for the special effects in the early films (and Star Wars) a few times, and talked with him about the films. The gadgets in the early films were flights of fancy, with perhaps a nod to some of the stuff SOE & MI9 came up with; nowadays we all have so many clever things that the modern films seem slightly humdrum in that department.
