I remember that day so well. We were planning to go that festival, but couldn't get tickets. So instead I walked 20 miles with a group of friends to the westernmost village in Germany. It was the hottest day of the year and we were getting quite dehydrated towards the end and we could hardly walk. We were so looking forward to the pub in the village. Every village in Germany has a church and a pub. Or so we thought. That one only had a church.
The pensioners sitting on a bench in the village square greeted us with ‘So, are you unemployed as well?'. We did find a phone box (no mobiles in them days) and called for help. In the evening we watched the concert live on telly with a crate of cold German lager and David Lindley just blew us away. I've been a big fan ever since.
Happy days.
‘Rag Bag' at 42 minutes in is my favourite...
