What are you drinking tonight.

Home brew cider, I thought I would be smart and add extra sugar not knowing the original alcohol volume. I am now drinking 7.8% cider.
It tastes great and the alcohol content doesn't show, but by f*ck after 2 or 3 pints you are feeling it.
I am now happily pickled (quite drunk) slàinte. (y)
Took me ages to find cheers or good health in gaelic.

Trying Lidl's {assumed} version of Brewdog's Hazy Jane. Tastes good, much cheaper and probably without the some questionable business ethics. Other than copying another brewer's beer ;) Worth a punt and a sip.

Need to try some of the Lidl "craft" offerings, had a look last time and there was a fair selection which surprised me.

I live next to tesco but it's hard to imagine them competing meaningfully in this space. I like some of Brewdog's beers, having been weaned onto it on Speedbird when SWMBO worked for British Airways. But they're no strangers to controversy so I'll not die in a ditch to defend Hazy Jane. Every Lidl helps, as they say at tesco!

The Melodist gin and Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic with a slice of lime left over from my cooking tonight. Its 29°C upstairs so I'm pre-cooling myself before I go up! It's a bit of a sleeper this stuff. Tezzies, but tastes like more expensive for sure. Not a million miles from Suntory Roku. I would defo buy this again rather than, say, Bombay Sapphire. The Gentleman's Journal agree.

The Melodist London Dry Gin

The Melodist London Dry Gin

Where’s it from? Tesco. Oh yes, your friendly neighbourhood hypermarket. And yet you still haven’t heard of The Melodist, have you? Distilled at The Two Tykes distillery this is Tesco’s latest addition to its ‘Finest’ spirit range.
What botanicals does it use? There are Far Eastern influences here, with zesty yuzu and green tea being used alongside the classic juniper. Also look out for coriander seed and cinnamon bark, bay leaves and lemongrass.
What does it taste like? It doesn’t taste like a £20 bottle of gin, let’s say that. With all of those botanicals above, it tastes more like Japanese gin. The citrus shines through, and the fresh herby spices give you an umami mouthfeel not unlike a fresh Thai dish. But ‘The Melodist’ is an apt name — as all these flavours harmonise perfectly.

Probably not new as I don't drink but spotted a Guinness I'd not seen before in the supermarket this afternoon - Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee. Ironic, that the flavours are something that would work well with their new excellent zero alcohol Stout. I do enjoy the zero Stout and so poured one out and popped a tentative tablespoon of https://quarterpast.uk/iced-coffees-chai/original-iced-coffee/ into it, which darkened it further and gave it a lovely coffee and caramel depth.

Smashing!

... and with zero alcohol, it could easily be a Guinness for breakfast.
