Straight Razor Shave of the Day

Boker 4/8 with a few years on it, fresh off the hone.
Uomo Vendetta 2-Band Lotus-tip, with ebony/resin swirl handle
Prep - hot shower, then a thorough face lather, left to do some softening while I reached for the strop.

I'm only a few weeks into SR shaving. Every shave has a discovery or two. The relative stiffness of this Boker seems to make it easier to use, but I think it's dangerous to feel confident yet.

It's like switching from DE to SE shaving - my collection of former treasures now appears boring, and I just want to try different grinds, all the way up to a thick, near wedge. There are elements to SR technique I don't understand, and I only have a rough sense of why one shave is very close, and the next I have to strop mid-pass.

I am definitely going to look at preshave which softens stubble. Never saw the point before, but I wasn't wielding a self-maintained, delicately dangerous carbon steel edge.
That's the attraction: the sheer unknown, I suppose.

Hey Brandon, good to see! For me, apart from the sharpness of the blade which is not so easily remedied as just unwrapping a new one with DE, the things that determine the quality of the shave the most is the angle of the blade and how well you stretch the skin as you go.
I am also curious about different grinds. I have various razors from 4/8 round point to my Koraat 14/2.0 big square point but all are extra hollow, especially the Koraat which is bellied. I am curious about a near wedge, although I have no idea if I'll get on with one. All part of the fun as you say.

I missed using an SR and today's shave with my favorite heavy-weight wedge was very enjoyable. 3 easy, gentle, smooth, and comfortable passes for a dfs-ccs-sas finish...
