Ach Brito ‘Mogno'…
Tried something a little different this afternoon… It is no different to look at than a standard bar of soap and it comes in a simple green and white striped card box (I love that simple and traditional looking design) without any additional wrapping on the inside. Clearly a soap intended to sit permanently on the sink so that you use it frequently, but, for people who rotate their soaps and creams, a pot will probably be essential. A plastic travel soap dish is an option, as this would make a good travel shaving soap, but I prefer ceramic pots and when I started this shave I was considering Mogno as a contender for a Boots pot that is lain empty for far too long. Here's the shave:
Software: Glyce Lime soap pre-wash | Mogno shaving soap | Davidoff Cool Water AS
Hardware: Yaqi Moka Express | Ivory/Gold EJDE89 | Gillette Nacet blade
As soon as I smelled this soap I thought of Davidoff Cool Water and TGS Abysso. It surprised me because I expected a more woody scent, given that I thought ‘Mogno' means Mahogany in Portuguese. (Please correct me if I am wrong).
You could use this like a shaving stick directly on the face, or use rub it in your hands and use it like a face soap, using a brush to face lather. I just dropped it into a bowl and tried to use it like any other hard shaving soap. It worked perfectly well, lathered quickly and provided a very comfortable two-pass shave without the need to reload the brush, and little or no after-burn from alum or AS.
Overall, I absolutely love this soap! It smells fantastic and worked as well as any good hard soap. It's also quite cheap so I am definitely going to be stocking up. So, yes… it has already been permanently transferred into my spare Boots pot…not exactly made to measure but with the lid on it looks fine to me
Have a great evening all
