I'd be intrigued by Barbon Shaving cream by for a while and the great gent @SeanC very kindly sent me a sample of it and for today's shave I used it with a fair amount of excitement.
As with any new soap or cream I think it takes a few times to fully be able to appreciate it, to get the soap/water ratio right but for the first time I liked it a lot, even if I probably over hydrated the lather a little bit. Barbon seems to produce a very good lather, fairly slick with good cushion (something I will assess with more usage as today's lather was a little overhydrated) but what seems to distinguish it from other creams/soaps is how the lather feels on the face during the shave, it felt a little different - difficult to articulate how so but I know that alcohol is one of the ingredients. No irritation though, which considering my record with soaps/creams that make my face burn I was very pleased to find another cream that I can actually use. Difficult to describe the scent as well, it's very mild in scent I'd say off the top of my head it was a mild antiseptic kind of scent, a pleasant one though.
The shave itself wasn't the closest, I think the razor head was too mild for the Lord Platinum but a very comfortable one nonetheless. It'd been a while since I last used a Lord Platinum and it's one of Lord's better blades but not as sharp as the Shark Chrome which I used recently, but much smoother.
Today's shave really shone for the post shave, my face felt very smooth and I seemed to have the least post shave burn with the splash I can remember.
Anyway chaps, I hope you have a good day.
