Chaps, can any of you shed some light on a rather weird phenomenon I've experienced this past few days? Occasionally over the past year or so, I've experienced an annoying ingrown just under my chin on the left hand side. It's always sorted itself out before, but recently, in an attempt to obtain the same closeness on my chin as everywhere else, I've been shaving at 45 degrees to the grain, which is N-S, and this seemed to prompt it to reappear, and, on close inspection, I could see it emerging, growing across the surface for a few millimetres, then ingrowing. This evening, I decided to do something about it, and, after pulling it so it was no longer ingrowing, I decided to yank it out. This is where the weird part come in. It was noticeably thicker than even my normally coarse beard hair, and, instead of the usual bulb-shaped root, it had an acute-angled hook.
I've done some preliminary internet searches, and the only similar phenomenon I could find was pili multigemini, but that refers to multiple shafts from a single follicle, whereas I'm sure this was a single, abnormally-thick hair.
