Ahhhhhh the F301, i used to love that camera.
If you are going in at the bottom end, I think as long as you can get 5-6 MP you will be fine.
I don't know about others, but mine has an easy switch from RAW to jpeg which i find useful if i am just taking some
quick snaps to send to people. I am guessing that all makes do this type of thing?

It's probably a frequently asked question, but is there a stand-out DSLR towards the lower end of the price spectrum?
It would be mainly used for ebay listings, SotD pictures and potentially for ipad app content, plus everyday pics. Good macro ability and lenses would therefore be important. If it takes video as well, so much the better since sellers increasingly put Youtube videos to good use in demonstrating items for sale these days (hopefully not shaving gear though!).
