Hi Everyone,
Hmmmmm interesting razor.
I wondered what I could possibly add that hasn't been said. Everyone has mentioned how mild it is, and it has even been tested with just oil, so what else is there to be done? Then I got it.... I'd test it under the influence of alcohol!!! If it were going to bite, that's when it would do it!
So, being the trooper that I am I took one for the team and had a couple of large glasses of red with dinner. Nom nom nom. Then put the kids to bed and got cracking....
It's heavy. VERY heavy. I like that, because I'm a man (in my own mind at least) but I did worry what might happen to my sink if I dropped it (Guess this somewhat conflicts with the whole 'man' thing???
) . Luckily the handle is strangely grippy and it never felt like slipping.
The head is big, and it is wide. The bars stick out quite far, and it is quite domed. Here a couple of pics to compare with my Feather AS-D2, PILS and mongoose.
The discolouring of the metal seems a little odd. Generally it looks fine, but there are specific areas with greater discolouration. I don't like this personally. Maybe if it were cleaned it would remain a uniform colour? I would want to know this before buying. Pics of what I mean:
To the shave. Even after reading the previous report I thought I would stick to a bit of lather to start. Well I say a bit..... I used Fitjar..... I used way too much Fitjar .....and ended up with LOTS of lather, probably enough for everyone reading this tonight. Obviously I didn't want to waste it so I slapped it on until I resembled a snowman, stuck in a Gillette 7 o'clock yellow and plowed on. Now, as we all know YMMV but I was impressed. I didn't get Nico1970's experience at all. It felt fine. I quickly ploughed through 3 very well lubricated passes with no drama, no pain, no weepers...... Nothing ...except a 95% BBS. The result was very satisfactory. I am impressed.
Now.... There's one thing that is stopping me love this razor....and I can't figure what it is. On my face it feels odd...well at least 'different'. I am not sure if it is the wide safety bars, or the domed shape, but somehow I can feel it more on my face than my other razors. It's not painful or unpleasant and maybe I'll get used to it..... Who knows.
Anyway day one over, and its a cracking start for the Hone. Well done
@Hone.
Oh...... And also I broke my duck....this was my first ever pass around, so thanks @honeand @riverun for the opportunity.
More tomorrow, or Thurs.
