My initial thoughts on receiving this razor was its size. Really small in the hand and for those with large hands or fat fingers you may find this an issue. It did take me a few shaves to get the hang of handling this.
The last thing I wanted to do is drop a £200 razor, especially because it does not belong to me.
Held with kid gloves I had my first shave and was impressed by the BBS 3 pass achieved, however I suffered razor burn to my neck. This is something I rarely suffer with.
Loading with the Astra SP for my first shave involved a lot of discipline to align it correcting and securely. Adopting the
@Blademonkey approach and advice I insured I pushed the blade lengthways to the locating pins.
Not acceptable for a razor at this price range.
The overall finish is excellent along with the weight and balance. Once you have spent a little time with this razor you begin to realise how easy it is to use, changing angles became simplistic and thoroughly enjoyable.
After my second shave I changed my trusty Astra SP to a Gillette 7o'clock yellow with the thought that maybe it was the blade that was causing irritation to my neck. I must say it was improved but still irritation remained.
I decided to give it another go as it dawned on me that perhaps I was having a little blade wobble from incorrect blade placement.
I played around again with the blade alignment and I had a trouble free shave. No irritation what so ever. Now whether this was the problem is debatable but shave #4 & #5 were superb. A BBS shave achieved with little effort.
I may add at this point that I did not have any cuts, nicks or weepers throughout my shaves which is certainly a major plus point.
To conclude until recently I have never heard of the "Darwin" razor which the EVO has obviously been developed from.
My jaw nearly hit the floor when I discovered the price of the Darwin. There is one for sale at the moment on the bay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Darwin-2-...919454?hash=item1c8a45e01e:g:4ZkAAOSw42dZDt6S for your perusal. (PN I have no affiliation with this item for sale.)
How much???
Obviously a rarity that I would love to have a go with but as far as the Asylum Evolution is concerned I do not even think I could justify it's cost.
Don't get me wrong I would be more than happy to have one in my den but maybe at half of its current price purely due to the worrying blade alignment issue.
A sincere thank you goes out to
@riverrun all in all it's been a wonderful experience.
