Merkur Futur...first use..!

So I've read a lot of good things about these, but people say the Futur is less suited to those new to DE. I'm not sure if that really means "new to wet shaving" or just DE. Surely if it's adjustable it can be set to mild? Or is it not as simple as that? In spite of my preference for straight razors overall, having recently tried a mild DE, I'm thinking it deserves a space in my rotation and I'm looking to see what sort of thing I should consider. This is probably getting close to a thread hijack so maybe I'll start my own, but the Futur appeals, being well regarded, adjustable, and about as much as I fancy spending, hence my interest in your experience with it compared with the usual 34C/EJ 89L etc
I think it’s aggressiveness is a little exaggerated but it’s certainly less forgiving than most DE out there and will nicely exfoliate/take a top layer off of you don’t treat it with care! I started with a clone and they are much more forgiving and mild. I love it but have one I’m willing to sell. It’s matt chrome and I’m good condition. I am looking for cash to fund another razor I’d love to get my hands on

i bought a gold one, last week. im pretty new to this DE shaving, but even though im a newbie, it didnt cut me at all!! I think theres more to aggressiveness than simply the blade gap, maybe the angle of the blade edge etc plays a part too. I use the Futur on setting 2, then go down to 1 for final pass

I had a go at the Futur clone from Aliexpress, I tried a couple in fact. There was a serious issue with inconsistency of the blade gap on either side on both that I tried, one side aggressive, one side mild. Not very well made IMO. Both ended up in a drawer after a few weeks.

Common problem, it's caused by the centre part being installed the wrong way around at he factory... 3 minute fix.

Futur was my first DE. Fantastic engineering, however, in my case it was too aggressive to use every day, which my occupation required. If shaving every 2-3 days, it's hard to beat.

I have also tried two of the Futur clones (£15 each) both had blade alignment issues and I tried correcting them as per the video, nothing worked.
Loved the look and feel of the razor, didn’t find it slippery to hold and even with the alignment issue I still got a great shave.
I would’ve tried the Merkur version but to me it’s a fatally floored design because you have to hold/twist the head when adjusting the settings, I’ve been wet shaving with various DE razors for 15 years and cartridge razors for 25 years and Futur is the only razor I have ever cut my fingers on, and it was quite a deep cut, put me off a bit

for years it has been my main razor in combination with personna blades. I own both the satin and polished version.
great razor but at some point, I don't know why but the magic is over.
I no longer had the right feeling that I found at least for the moment with the rockwell 6s (I'm referring to daily shaving).
When switching from one razor to another there is always a moment of excitement, then you get used to it ... with the passing of the years and with the technique some differences are less noticeable and you shave well with almost everything.
