Mental Health Awareness

Yeah they say you shouldn't have it for more than a few days in case you can't get off it again. The bloke from 111 said although he couldn't condone or advise anyone to take painkillers prescribed for someone else (my gf) he said I'll tell you off another day, but for now, take the other one and you'll be alright for another 4 hours!

Ha! Well I didn't catch my old chap in the meat grinder or anything! Just a wrenched knee that got locked at 90 degrees, leaving me immobilised in severe pain for what seemed like an eternity. All I did was pull my knee to my chest to get off the bench and all hell broke loose. Luckily I found a stash of cocodamol. I can walk alright now, but gotta watch what I do from now on.
Yea be careful mate, let's hope it's just a one off (y)

I'm OK. Hope everyone else is. Don't struggle if not. Reach out.

Hot weather got me down a bit plus i had a few beers ( one or two) and I'm under no doubt alcohol acts as a depressant. I spend many hours listening to mental health podcasts and learning about human behaviour. Been life changing. Got many answers.

I like quotes. They make me think.

He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.

My favourite one.
Old age comes when your least able to cope with it.
Ha.

Or
Health and wealth and not evenly distributed amongst the population. How true is that one.

Keep ploughing forward. Watch out for others not doing so well.

I had a medication review at my doctor's today and I was told that in her opinion (my doctor) I had been on a high enough dose of morphine for too long and although my pain level has if anything increased over the last year she informed me that she would be reducing my dose by 10mg per day over three months and then seeking to reduce further after then.
She said that my pain could increase but it will lessen as my body gets used to the reduction.
I said even with the current dose I'm still in near constant pain and reminded her of the oath she took ie to do no harm.
In my case this would be phycological pain / harm due to living with an increase in pain that is high enough already.
At this point she said " we are just going round in circles here " and that was that!
To say I'm feeling a bit low in spirit's is not even close to how I'm actually feeling.

Paul.

Gosh Paul that really sounds tough. I suppose she's concerned about the addiction risk and building up of tolerance but it sounds like she's not going to be deterred and doesn't have much of a bedside manner. I know there have been studies into pain and medication, which have shown that chronic use of some painkillers leads to a cycle rather than amelioration long term. Not being medical I can't remember which classes of pain meds were being discussed. However I can fully imagine how you must be dreading a reduction in your pain meds. No idea what the answer is. Are there programmes that can help people deal with long term pain through learning coping strategies rather than painkillers?

Anyway man I really feel for you and just want to say we're thinking of you and don't let it get you down, however easier said than done that is.

I have been on Tramadol for 15 years due to various medical reasons. When I last registered as a temporary patient in 2016 the first thing they wanted to do was cancel my Tramadol. I have now permanently relocated, and God knows how I can keep registered to my old practice especially as I have 6 monthly diabetes check ups. With my new job, I get free medical and online GP services after 6 months. I have no idea if I can continue my Tramadol with them. I have no idea why medical professionals want to reduce pain medication. I don't have an addiction but a painful medical condition.

My employers have Babylon via Bupa. They offer a GP at hand virtual practice which is like an NHS practice. Hopefully I will be entitled to this rather than the private prescription service they also offer...

Just remember you're not alone. Sharing helps. However I have to say that your doctor doesn't seem very empathetic. And I feel for you
