I see there is one in oud/ sandlewood and wondered if there was a verdict on it.

I've got Oud Santal and find it to be superb although there are some people really don't rate it. Not much help really. I've only ever tried a sample of MdC but I found LpL a better performer.

I bloom it whilst taking a shower which I find helps. The lather is not one with tons of cushion but produces a nice slick lather which I find perfect for my Feather AC shaves. If you like a dense, cushiony lather it may not be for you. Scent is fabulous as is post shave.

From my recent experience, I'd go along with the observations of @NeilJ above. It does need plenty product on the brush, but even so, it's not a massive lather generator. However, it is very slick; especially by the third pass and its post-shave feel is excellent.

Silly fellow went and put shea butter in it a few years ago ... ruined it for me.

Look out for tins of the older formula ... it is worth hunting down, especially Rose de Pushkar.

It's a few years since I used LPL but I would rate the formula at that time as being ok, but not excellent. The lather to me seemed a bit thin and insubstantial, and the slickness was just satisfactory. I rate MdC far higher, and also Saponificio Varesino.

I had the old rose soap, but found it tricky to lather, and it went to mush after a few uses. Maybe the new ones are good as many like it.

You're right on that ... I used to leave the lid off overnight after use. That's the original formula.

I've got a several year old tin of this , I'm still trying to get the lid off !
