Hi there,
Spent a few days there in 1973 on the way to Crete from Brindisi and traveling using fairly small and sometime exciting in a bad way commercial boats. I had never heard of loukoumades before then and seeing em sold on the street was irresistable.
We were some guys traveling and meeting women along the way....sigh. Two rooms in a rickety walled 'hotel' with a wake up call I will never forget. The owner promised to knock on the door with her mother at the right time. I love that.
We rented sketchy 250cc bikes and did a self tour of the island, which included going dangerously fast at times, but no one died.
Funnily enough, one traveling companion was Australian and was always introduced or mentioned as 'Matey'.
Ok then, that'll do it, except to ask what's it like being a resident?
