The razor arrived this morning and in better shape than I expected, yes there was rust and slight watermarks and grime, I got stuck into it earlier this evening and again it brushed up better than I hoped, the box really was the thing that interested me tho, it is dated 1897 in pen, but I have no reason to disbelieve that, the razor has a lead wedge and looks the right timeframe.
So, the blade was really dull and I gave it the full array of stones that I thought would do the job , 1K...3K...5K...8K...12K then finished on a Escher, and continued with the Escher under slow running water until it went sticky, I increased the water flow and gave it around 50 more laps, 20 laps on pastes balsa then 150 on leather, it felt good so onto the shave, it really did shave superbly, I was quite surprised really, but very happy, I am looking forward to use it again,
The picture is before the cleanup and hone, this is how it arrived.
