Gordy, from what I read photos such as these are meaningless as they tell us little or anything about the sputtering & coatings. It's like a B&W photo of a woman you've never met.
P.S. The Silver Blue is merely the old Russian (not the Indian) 7 O'clock Super Platinum 'reincarnated' according to the Gillette guy on another forum. It is a great blade, I agree.
What the photographs taught me was that all the blades I preferred looked almost identical in the scans, all very much like the picture I provided. What I found with all these blades were smoothness translating into comfort, and were quite long lasting as well as working in the full range of vintage Gillettes, my preferred razor types. We know Astra SP are nowhere near as sharp as the GSB but they have the same, very smooth appearance in the scans.
My favourite blades are -
Astra SP
Gillette 7 o'c SharpEdge Yellow
Gillette Silver Blue
Perma-Sharp Super
Polsilver Super Iridium
Personna Lab Blue
These all look the same in scans, but have differing qualities. All but the Lab Blues are made in St.Petersburg and some may be the same blade, taking the mass spec. readings into consideration as well. I intend to try more of this factory's blades but again from the scans, the prospective blades look remarkably similar.
Out of the forty or so blades I trialled (I did a trial at the start of DE and another over a year later when routine changed and technique had levelled out), I could not find other blades with the qualities of my favourites. Only one other blade I really like, Feathers, have a smooth secondary facet, but it certainly doesn't on the primary facet.
I didn't take any of this into consideration when choosing blades as I found the scans after my trials. I found it to be coincidental that my chosen blades had the same appearance in the scans.
