I used a Perma-Sharp for the first time today and it was fantastic.
Since getting into DE shaving about 6 years ago I've tried a lot of different blades and the Gillette Silver Blue and 7 O’Clock SS Russian blades were a couple of my first samples. They're stand out favourites from first use and until today remained unmatched by any other blades I’ve tried, however once again its a Russian blade from the same factory that I find hitting that sweet spot of smoothness and comfort. I now have 3 favourite blades from the same factory !?
This is quite an uncanny trend and IMHO they shave very similarly and any differences are subtle.
Are these really 3 different blades ?

As you say @Bogeyman I guess we’ll never know for sure.
I try new blades hoping for another gem to surface but in all fairness most of them fall into the “good” or “ok” category.
I’ve fortunately now found 3 to be “exceptional” and I feel its time to stop looking for some other Nirvana and just stock up on these great blades and be very content.

I pretty much like most Russian blades.
but i have had some dodgy ones in the same pack.
My ultimate favourite at the moment goes to Gillette Super Thin Platinum from Thailand
Can’t fault them
Until now I've had no issues with those I mentioned but maybe I've been lucky.

Astras and Yellows were poor for me and I didn’t much like the Greens either. The Perma-Sharps are good, GSBs fine, Platinums excellent Sputniks and Minora too. Haven’t tried Rubies but am currently investigating Super Iridiums. Same factory and surely there’s ‘badge engineering’ going in? I don’t much care though as along as there’s a plethora of quality, reliable blades out there, I’m happy.

At risk of confusing yourself further :) - have you tried the Nacet blades from the same factory? I find them excellent in pretty much any razor I've used them in. Cheers - I.
Fair comment @Digimonkey.
Apart from the 3 I mentioned I've tried Astra SP, Nacet and Rubie and from memory all were good. Its been a while since using the Astras or Nacets so I'll revisit them to re-evaluate.
Yep! Lovely, sharp blades and where, say, the Nacet might be just too sharp the Permasharp Super sits just behind it; sharp and safe. It's one of a very short list that I give a full five stars to.
I think the point of my thread was to convince myself to fine tune my inventory to only the blades in that five star category as you put it @pjgh
Sometimes I feel like I've cheated myself when I use an unknown blade thats "good" and I have those in the drawer that are "great".
Bloody FOMO !

Bugger it I might as well go through the full card from St Petersburg :p

Speaking of FOMO, as in a previous post, the Super Iridiums have gone the way of all flesh, with only limited quantities available (at a price) from e.g. Razor Blades Club. Other respected blades, like Personna Lab Blues and Med Preps have disappeared from Personna's website (and Connaughts and Robbins, too); Gillette Ninjas seem to look scarce. Shavepocalypse?
I reckon my blade stash will outlast me (I have at least 30 years' worth) so I'll just chomp through what I have. (There are Perma-Sharps in there, somewhere) :geek:
