What I meant when I talked about technique was that a lot of people buy an AS-D2, and then send it back, or sell it on because they say that you can't get a close shave with it. You can read reviews and forum posts all over the internet that will confirm that.
I maintain that once you've learned to hold the Feather at the right angle plus or minus maybe 1°, then it will shave as close as anything. With the added advantage for jittery old gits like me that the blade gap is so small that it's almost imposible to cut yourself. Works for me, YMMV
